About me

I'm a stereotypical nerd complete with glasses, known throughout the Internet as Ivan, F00F, Eris, continuum.mid, North, Cosmic, and by many other names. Feel free to use any of those names.

I have been diagnosed as autistic, and identify as vaguely queer. You may use any pronouns or affectionate nicknames for me. (I'd offer more specific labels, but in my experience applying them to myself creates a pressure for me to be that thing which is extremely harmful to my mental health.)

Ideologically, I am vaguely left-libertarian, interested in the empowerment of the working class, and the eventual creation of a free society which supports all beings to meet their needs and be their best selves. I do not subscribe to any particular religion, but I am interested in ideas from several of them. I strive to be kind, honest, and rational, and encourage others to do the same - that means admitting when I don't know something or when I learn I am wrong, and treating conversations as opportunities to learn.

I have far too many special interests including, but not limited to:

• Open-source software (including GNU/Linux)
• Electronic music (esp. Kraftwerk, Autechre, C418, or anything that uses synths creatively & isn't obnoxiously loud)
• Science fiction (esp. Star Trek)
• Retro video games (especially: classic Doom, The Elder Scrolls, Ace Attorney, and the entire Game Boy Advance library)
• Philosophy and spirituality

• Magic: the Gathering

Boundaries

• Don't label or diagnose me without my consent.
• Non-sexual flirting is okay, but ask before making overt sexual comments.
• If I'm doing something wrong, you can tell me. I promise I am trying to do the right thing.
• I love talking about controversial topics such as politics, social justice, and queer identities, as long as you are civil and willing to accept that I may disagree with you. If you intend to cut me off, try to get my friends to cut me off, or send harassment my way if I have a certain opinion on a topic, don't discuss that topic with me unless I bring it up first.

In case my age matters for your own boundaries: I'm over 18 and under 21.

I'm not going to link everything as I'm uncomfortable doing so (though it's probably all easy to find). But here are some places you can find me. Note that I mostly avoid large social media services, because I find most of them either toxic or unusable.

Active accounts:

• Bandcamp Artist: continuum.mid/ivanastan - I make MIDI music for video games and progressive electronic music. Everything that I can release as public domain (i.e. not a cover or an egregious sample) is public domain; I don't require anything but I'd appreciate if you credit me and show me what you used it in. You can also give me money this way.
• Bandcamp Fan: continuum.mid/northivanastan - I buy lots of electronic music digitally. You can also gift me albums if you have the money, though most of my wishlist is just albums I want to listen to at some point.
• OpenGameArt: northivanastan - Another place to get my music, specifically the songs for video games that I have released into the public domain.
• Retrospring: @f00fc7c8 - Question and answer page. I might leave here soon as I'm worried it's replacing my social media addiction that has been very harmful to me, but for now I'll answer questions quickly.

• Bookwyrm: f00fbooks at books.theunseen.city - My book ratings and reviews. Hasn't been active for a long time because I don't often finish books, but if I do finish a book I will update it.

I also have a Discord account, a Matrix account, and several email accounts, but I will not link them here, either because they're tied to my work life in a direct way, or because they're likely to be spammed as soon as I link them anywhere on the clearnet. Ask me for them somewhere else.

• Mastodon/Fediverse: f00fc7c8 at woem.space - Not using this account due to finding the fediverse (and most social media) to be toxic and harmful to my mental health, but if that's the only contact we share, I guess I can use it. I also have an alt at f00fc7c8 at kind.social which I use even less often, but is less likely to be blocked by your server.
• YouTube: The MIDI Continuum - Yet another place to get my music, and where I occasionally upload random stuff. I'm probably going to replace this with PeerTube eventually, but it will stay up because more people use YT.
• I have a personal website and blog which may eventually replace this rentry, but at the moment it's too tied to my work and school life for me to feel comfortable linking it.
