who was horatio nelson? Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758–1805) was a legendary Royal Navy officer known for his leadership and strategic brilliance during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Born into a Norfolk family, he joined the navy at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks. Nelson earned a reputation for his boldness and tactical expertise, despite facing setbacks like illness and unemployment.

He achieved major victories, including the capture of Corsica, the Battle of Cape St Vincent, and the Battle of the Nile. He lost his right arm at the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife but remained active. In 1801, Nelson defeated Denmark at the Battle of Copenhagen, and in 1805, he led a decisive victory at the Battle of Trafalgar, though he was fatally wounded in the battle.
